Limitation of the Source Routing Protocol in ATM-LANs using the LAN-Emulation
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper deals with the so-called LAN-Emulation (LAN-E) as specified by the ATMForum, applying the Source Routing Protocol (SRP), which is well known from the Token Ring area. The LAN-E is one possible realisation for the integration of connectionless communication on Local Area Networks (LANs), into the connection oriented Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). The routing in those emulated or virtual LANs is done by means of the SRP. This protocol is a layer two protocol in the ISO/OSI reference model. Due to the structure of the SRP, are to be expected limitations in an enviroment like ATM. In this paper the functions, the problems and the limitations of the protocols are explained

Performance Improvement of Expanded Integrated Local Area Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
In Local Area Networks (LAN) connected together by bridges, flow control and smooth traffic in the network is very important. However, congestion at bridges can cause intensive loss of received frames. In addition, the received frames are thrown away and have to be retransmitted by the source station, which causes more congestion and massive reduction in the overall network throughput. The netw...

To aid the early adoption of ATM technology as a local area network the ATM Forum has defined the LAN Emulation over ATM specification which aims to present a service interface more compatible with that of previous LANs. This document describes and defines a set of services -LAN Emulation Servicestogether with the components used for their provision. The paper reports on an implementation of th...
متن کاملImplementation of Virtual LANs over ATM WANs
Virtual LANs (VLANs) allow to interconnect users over campus or wide area networks and gives the users the impression as they would be connected to the same local area network (LAN). The implementation of VLANs is based on ATM Forum’s LAN Emulation and LAN/ATM switches providing interconnection of emulated LANs over ATM and the LAN ports to which the user’s end systems are attached to. The pape...

As broadband multimedia applications to the desk top are becoming popular toduy, the high-speed bandwidth demand from a single user will occupy large shares of the LAN's channel capacity. Therefore, the evolution of LAN technologies hiis shifted from shared to dedicated circumstunces. More and more LANs are installed in the enterprise and campus. Interconnection of the large number of LANs will...
